TheU.S.recentlybeganenforcingtheChipsandScienceAct,allowingglobalsemiconductorcompaniesthatbuildplantsinthecountrytoapplyforsubsidies.

Theactprovidesnearly$53billioninsubsidiesforsemiconductorinvestmentsonAmericansoil.However,semiconductorcompaniesapplyingforthesesubsidiesmustabidebythedetailedrulesoftheact.Forinstance,theyneedtosubmitinformationaboutthecapacityofdifferenttypesofchipsandexpectedyields,amongotherthings.Theyarealsorequiredtodisclosedetailedproductiondata.

TheactisatestamenttoWashington"shegemonicpractices.Requiringcompaniestoprovidecoretechnologicalsecretsinthenameofso-callednationalsecurityisahegemonicactthatviolatestheinterestsofothersandisaprominentexampleofthe“Americafirst”policy.

Washington"stechnologicalhegemonyhasharmed“digitalhumanrights”inothercountriesandregionswhilealsohinderingglobaltechnologicalcooperationandprogress.
